Lauren Geremia is a hands-on designer who draws on her fine arts background for concepts and designs. Her spaces incorporate unique pieces, including custom furniture created by Lauren and her friends, who are fabricators and artists. Her client list includes Dropbox and Instagram, with projects extending from San Francisco to New York. O&G built (8) Colt Settees in our popular Oyster Stain on Ash for her recent project in Cincinnati, a restaurant named Sartre OTR.
"In the tradition of the brasserie, Sartre serves a large menu of food from soil and pasture and sea, and many fine drinks. Much of what we serve is made possible by those early enterprising days in France; but we were brought into Being by minds in OTR, and like our neighborhood, we admire the past but pin our ambitions and culinary style to the future."
We asked a few questions to Lauren and her design team:
What was exciting about designing Sartre?
The clients requested an open space that felt approachable, unique, and fun. Other than that, they really embraced our vision.
What was the original inspiration? Vibe? Influence? Feeling?
The architecture and essence of the building served as the narrative for the design. Our read on the space was louche and lovely. The color palette was taken from old photos and many of the design elements were sourced from local flea markets. We wanted the restaurant to feel at once classic and timeless. Finishes such as wood wainscot, a rubbed-brass back bar, deep olive green leather banquettes, and textural plaster walls explore the contrast between old and new, raw and finished, imbuing an old building with new life.
Over the years, we've had requests to build a custom Colt Settee with a lower back. It's almost year 10, and we've decided it was about time to release the perfect companion piece to our Colt line. Easy to specify in an entry or at a dining table, the Colt Low-Back Settee comes in (4) standard sizes, and is customizable in length.
